Historically, Willow as a therapeutic herb had little importance and little bibliography. Everything changed when its positive effect in treating the prostate was highlighted by the famous Austrian herbalist Maria Tremben in the 20th century. The continuation was impressive since in Austria, Germany and America the herb became sought after.

Willow in modern herbal medicine is considered to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. Herbalists use it mainly in treating problems of prostate hyperplasia, cystitis and nephritis. The positive effect of willow in treating incipient prostate hyperplasia has been announced in an article in the scientific journal <<Pharmaceutical Herbs>> in 1991 where it is stated that its anti-inflammatory effect is 10 times greater than the synthetic substance indomethacin. In laboratory studies conducted at the Prostate Research Center in Vancouver, they found that very small concentrations of the herb negatively affect the activity of the enzymes 5-alpha reductase and aromatase, which are involved in the incipient hyperplasia of the prostate. Epilobium is considered to be helpful in urinary tract infections, bronchial infections, mucous colitis and irritable bowel syndrome due to its anti-inflammatory action. It is also considered to be beneficial in diarrhea and incontinence in men and women.

It is prepared as an infusion by pouring 1.5-2 grams of dried herb into a cup of boiling water, leaving it for 10 minutes and then drinking it up to twice a day. Once in the morning on an empty stomach, and once at night before going to bed is ideal. Avoid using it in cases of pregnancy or breastfeeding.
