Harpagophytum Procumbens (Devil's Claw) is known in our country as "Devil's Claw". This name is not related to its action and its attributes, but to its wicked fruit that injures grazing animals in contact with it. A useful part of the plant is its bulbous root.
The harpagophytum is from a very old age known as a medicinal plant with the Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert having used it for the first time for many generations. A German, G.H. Mehnert learned about this plant from the Named Bushmen and made it known to Europe in 1904 when he exported it to Germany.
In modern herbal therapy, Devil's claw is mainly used to treat arthritis, and myalgia. Many clinical studies have been done on the properties of the Devil's claw. Investigations carried out in Germany at the University of Jena (1958-1976) found that the antiplatelet has strong anti-inflammatory properties compared to those of cortisone and the phenylbutazine component used as an analgesic in musculoskeletal pain (arthritis, tendinitis, back pain, and so on). The main substances of the Harpagophytum, which are responsible for its high efficacy, are arrogozide and B-sitosterol.
In addition, Harpagophytum contains alkaloids, phenolic acid and fluoroids. Its use is considered to have additional benefits in cases of dyspepsia and is used externally for dermatoses (dysplasia).
The root of the Devil's Claw is recommended to be consumed daily for at least a month. One teaspoon in a cup of water, 3 times a day is the recommended daily dose. Purgatory must not be consumed during pregnancy.
If you do not have the time to prepare a beverage, then we suggest you see the 100% natural and very strong tincture of Devil's Claw, which is liquid and ready for consumption.
Herbs are and should be treated as medicines. At Zachos pharmacy we do not support self-medication and we suggest that you always consult your doctor before taking them.
