Alpha lipoic acid along with vitamins C and E are the body’s main line of defense against free radicals. Alpha lipoic acid has been identified as the ideal antioxidant as unlike vitamin C which is water soluble, or vitamin E which is fat soluble, it has the ability to neutralize free radicals both in lipids as well as in the aqueous parts of a cells. 

Alpha lipoic acid is composed of two different types of forms (isomers)the ‘R’ and ‘S’ type which exhibit very different properties.
