The silicone substance Dimethicone (also known as Polydimethylsiloxane or PDMS) belongs to the category of ingredients with the broader title "silicones". It is the most widespread organic polymer as it shows absolutely no toxicity and for this reason it is used in contact lenses, in food and in cosmetic products.

In the cosmetics industry this silicone has several applications. In moisturizing products (moisturizing creams, lotions, body milks, etc.) it is used as a skin protector. Essentially, it forms a thin "film" around the skin which retains natural moisture and protects against environmental factors - but without at the same time preventing the skin from "breathing". At the same time, it "fills" the wrinkles, reducing their intensity and gives softness and a "silky texture" to the creams.

In hair cosmetics (shampoo, conditioner, hair masks) silicone is used to give shine and soft texture to the hair. The silicone covers the "pores" of the hair in order not to absorb excessive moisture but at the same time to keep the natural moisture inside. In this way the hair stays straight and does not "curl" so easily. At the same time, it gives softness since it works as a conditioning agent - the hair does not make "knots" and is much easier to comb.

Cosmetic silicone is also used in anti-lice products for dry scalp, in sunscreen preparations, in eye shadows, in nail paints, in lip balms, etc. Recent research has shown that silicone has very positive effects in the treatment of skin diseases - especially those aggravated by the presence of SLS in liquid soaps. It seems to have soothing properties and for this reason it fights "redness" and is added to many products that have skin irritants.

The Dimethicone silicone you will find with us is very high quality and 100% pure. Silicone is usually used at a rate of up to 2.0% in moisturizing creams, at a rate of up to 4.0% in hand and body creams and at a rate of up to 6.0% in sunscreens (always in the cool down stage). In shampoos and conditioners it is usually used at a rate of 2-3%. Dimethicone silicone is not water soluble - it dissolves in oils.
