TUDCA (Taurorsodeoxycholic acid) is a form of bile acid that the human body naturally synthesizes from cholesterol in small amounts. This substance, known for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine, supports the healthy secretion of bile fluid from the liver to the intestines and has a beneficial effect on a number of other organs and systems of the human body.

Description and basic properties of taurorsodeoxycholic acid
Taurorsodeoxycholic acid, also known as TUDCA, is an amphiphilic acid (i.e. it has both a hydrophobic and a hydrophilic part) that is secreted by bile to help the body break down and absorb fat. Until recently, it was mainly popular with the most ardent bodybuilders, who used it to protect the liver from overload due to the intake of foods and supplements with a high protein content. However, it turns out that this substance has significantly more beneficial properties.

It has been known and used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine practices to treat many conditions. The substance constitutes up to 76% of the bile juice of Asian bears – mainly black (Selenarctos thibetanus) and brown (Ursus arctos) bears, and is known in the Far East as bear bile. Ursodeoxycholic acid (the international non-proprietary name (INN) for the pharmaceutical form of taurosdeoxycholic acid) and taurosdeoxycholic acid were first chemically synthesized in 1954 in Japan. Ursodeoxycholic acid is produced in several countries for the treatment of gallstones and primary biliary cholangitis. In recent decades, modern pharmacological research has confirmed that taurosdeoxycholic acid has a wide range of effects, including hepatoprotective, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic and others.

Benefits of taking taurosdeoxycholic acid
-Stimulates the secretion of bile juice: taurosdeoxycholic acid significantly increases – according to some studies up to 500%, the secretion of bile fluid. It has been found to increase not only the quantity but also the quality of bile and stimulates the body to produce more of its own TUDCA.

-Protects mitochondria in the liver:  Mitochondria are cellular organelles whose main function is to produce energy. They also play an important role in a number of metabolic processes such as programmed cell death, cell proliferation, steroid synthesis and others. In the liver, where their content is the highest compared to the rest of the body's organs, they are a key factor in neutralizing ammonia. Taurosdeoxycholic acid has been found to protect mitochondria by suppressing the secretion of a pro-apoptotic factor known as Vach, which causes their premature death.

-Helps reduce liver enzyme levels: Elevated enzyme levels are a sign of some type of liver dysfunction and are usually used for the early diagnosis of problems with it. Scientific studies show that the intake of taurosdeoxycholic acid contributes significantly to the normalization of the amounts of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) and alkaline phosphatase.

Scientific research shows that the anti-apoptotic properties of taurosdeoxycholic acid have promising potential for a number of health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and heart attack. In recent years, it has been found that TUDCA can significantly help protect vision, especially in cases of retinal degeneration.

Side effects
TUDCA is very well tolerated and most users do not experience side effects from taking supplements at the recommended dose of 500 mg. Diarrhea has occasionally been reported in some users taking more than 1000 mg of TUDCA per day.

TUDCA should not be taken before alcohol consumption as the combination of alcohol and TUDCA may be more harmful to the liver than alcohol alone. It is perfectly normal to take TUDCA the next day, but you should skip any day of alcohol consumption.

Recommended Use: Two 250 mg capsules per day. We do not recommend taking more than six capsules (1500 mg) per day. As TUDCA is water soluble it does not need to be taken with food.
