Polysorbate 20 (also known as Tween 20) is an emulsifier. It is widely used in the manufacture of cosmetics, in order to mix materials of different composition - mainly oils with water - without the use of alcohol.

Polysorbate 20 (also known as Tween 20) is especially useful if you want to add fragrant or essential oils to water or some other base. If, for example, you want to add essential oils to a shampoo or if you want to make a sprays of essential oils, then Polysorbate 20 is the ideal ingredient to "bind" the materials to each other. The proportion of Polysorbate 20 you should use is exactly the same as that of essential oils - if, for example, 2% of the essential oils are in the cosmetics you make, then add 2% of Polysorbate 20.

Polysorbate 20 is ideal for use with ethereal and aromatic oils. If you wish to use more "heavy" oils (eg base oils such as Almond oil), then we recommend using Polysorbate 80.

Polysorbate 20 comes from Lauric Acid, which is a component of Coconut Oil. As far as we know, it is the most "natural" product that can be used effectively as an emulsifier. Polysorbate 20 found in Zachos pharmacy is 100% pure and manufactured in Scotland under the strictest European specifications.
