The first official report on the use of olive leaf in medicine dates back to 1854, when the Hanbury said in the Pharmaceutical Journal a simple recipe for using the aqueous extract of olive leaves as an antipyretic. Since the early 20th century there are reports in the literature on the establishment and activity of olive leaf [5]. Specifically mentioned antioxidant [1,2,3] Antimicrobial [1,6], antihypertensive [1,4,7,8] vasodilating [9] and hypoglycemic [10] activity for the extract of the leaves or for individual components.
The extract of olive leaves and the same oleuropein, has been found to have potent bactericidal activity in vitro [1,6,11]. Specifically, the extract has been found to be effective in vitro against several pathogens including influenza virus, herpes, fungi and bacteria.
The oleuropein is a sekoiridoeidis glucoside (secoiridoid glucoside) characteristic of Oleason (Oleaceae) and is the main polyphenol component of olive (Olea europaea). It is the 9.6% of the dry weight of the leaves of the olive. It is the substance that imparts a bitter taste in the immature olives (the polyphenol content in mature olives are about half than in unripe). In recent years, elaioefropeini studied on the pharmacological activity, in particular antioxidant, bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect, and reduce the "welding" the platelets.
The hydroxytyrosol is the major phenolic compound of the olive fruit. It is the only polyphenol for which the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) accepts beneficial and therapeutic properties for the human body with a minimal daily dose of 5 mg. Protects the cardiovascular system, it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action and maintains the health of the brain, skin and joints.
The pomegranate (Punica granatum L) is used since ancient times because of the many positive health effects. Many scientific studies of recent years give the answer as to why the pomegranate was known in ancient times as "the fruit of health." [12-14] The pomegranate contains large amounts of bioactive ingredients such as flavonoids and polyphenols, mainly phenolic acids such as ellagic acid.
Ellagic acid has received attention as a factor which may have dynamic bioactive properties. The main actions are anti-obesity and reduction of skin aging. The ellagic acid may provide some protective effect against skin wrinkles, reducing the degradation of collagen caused by UVB rays, contributing in this way to protect the skin from UV radiation.
