Cascara Sagrada

Cascara, also known as "sacred bark" or cascara sagrada, is obtained from the bark of the native Northwestern American tree Rhamnus purshiana.

The bark powder has been traditionally used by indigenous peoples of the region to enhance colonic motility.

It contains anthracene glycosides (cascarosides A, B, C, D, E, F, aloins A and B, and chrysaloins A and B, a mixture of hydroxyanthracene O-glycosides including the monoglycosides of aloeemodin, chrysophanol, emodin, and physcion) and other components such as linoleic acid, myristic acid, syringic acid, lipids, tannin, and resin.

Cascara has mild laxative properties and is used against constipation.

This action is due to the cascarosides it contains.

Clinical studies conducted on elderly people indicate that treatment with cascara, compared to placebo, leads to relief of constipation and increases intestinal motility.

USE

Take 1 capsule just before bedtime with a full glass of water. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.

Do not consume the product for more than one week. Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

Natural color variation may occur in the product composition.

Warning: Cascara is not recommended in cases of diarrhea and/or unexplained abdominal pain, as it may worsen these conditions.

Contraindicated in patients with intestinal obstruction, acute inflammatory bowel disease e.g. Crohn's disease, colitis and appendicitis.

It is advisable to avoid the use of cascara with medications to regulate heart function (e.g. digoxin) and with thiazide diuretics.
