It is not produced by our body and therefore must be obtained through the diet, such as whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. Because it is a water-soluble vitamin, it is not stored in the body, resulting in a deficiency when one's diet is very poor in it, either due to a reduced appetite, or due to a diet rich in processed foods.
